Expansion and modernization of the largest gold mine in Senegal

The Finnish company Wärtsilä has confirmed the modernization and expansion project for the power plant that supplies the Sabodala-Massawa gold mining complex, owned by Endeavor Mining, with the aim of ensuring the conditions that allow it to increase the mine\’s production, which It is the largest gold mine in the country.

Thanks to this project, a greater production of electricity will be allowed, which will contribute to a greater production of the mine, which delivered more than 345,000 ounces of gold in 2021 and aims for 375,000 ounces in 2022.

“Wärtsilä has extensive experience in providing power solutions for mining operations around the world,” said Marc Thiriet, Director of Energy Affairs for Wärtsilä West Africa. “The power plant must be able to provide a reliable supply of electrical energy at all times, since no power equals no production.”

This is not the only project that the Finnish company is promoting in West Africa, as it is working on various technological solutions to maximize the area\’s energy resources.
