Cameroon, officially the Republic of Cameroon is a unitary republic in central Africa. It is bordered to the northwest by Nigeria, to the east by Chad and the Central African Republic, and to the south by Gabon, Congo, and Equatorial Guinea.

The United Nations Organization estimated the population of Cameroon at 19,522,000 inhabitants (2009). The population is young: about 40.9% are under 15 years old, 70% are under 30 years old, and 96,7% are under 65 years old.

Parity purchasing power per capita in Cameroon is 3,200 US $, one of the ten highest in Sub-Saharan Africa. The more significant export markets are France, Italy, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Cameroon is part of the Bank of Central African States (and it is also the dominant economy) and of the Union of Central African States (UDEAC). Its colonial monetary unit was the Cameroonian franc, which was later replaced by its current official currency, the CFA Franc.
